April 7 – International Beaver Day

Happy Beaver Day!
Beavers are just great. I mean, they’re adorable and incredibly clever. Or are they just really irritable? Only beavers that live on streams build dams. Those in ponds or lakes or slow moving rivers do not. The difference? No running water. A (slightly bizarre) study involved the recording of the sound of rushing water, which was then played through speakers set up close to places beavers resided. The beavers covered the speakers with several feet of mud, sticks and gravel so that they couldn’t hear the sound of the rushing water. Beavers find the sound of rushing water to be dreadful, and their dam building activities are simply a way of silencing a sound they find unpleasant.
Strange little creatures, Beavers are loved by all…except the Catholics (admittedly of the 17th century) that declared them part of the fish food group and so were appropriate to eat on Fridays…don’t worry Catholics, the Beaver is the national animal of Canada and they nearly killed all of them when it was still ok to hunt them up until the mid 19th century.
If they had killed them off we wouldn’t have such fantastic creatures that:
1. Have a third eyelid (yup…covers their eyeballs when they dive underwater…if that sounds dodgy, here is the source: http://lifestyle.iloveindia.com/lounge/facts-about-beaver-6019.html )
2. Can stay underwater for 15 minutes
3. Mate for life (nawwww diddums)
4. Party super-hard (see below)
Happy Beaver Day!

    • Thank you! The blog is one of the WordPress blog themes, which I customised with one of my own photographs for the background. It’s super-easy to customise, good luck with your own blog! Also, what I have is 100% free, although I believe you get access to more themes if you pay.

  3. Great post. I was checking continuously this blog and I am impressed!
Very helpful information specifically the last part 🙂
I care for such info much. I was seeking this particular information for a very long time.
    Thank you and good luck.

  4. Write more, thats all I have to say. Literally, it seems as though you relied on the video to make your point.

You definitely know what youre talking about, why waste your
intelligence on just posting videos to your site when you could be giving us something enlightening to read?

  5. Hey there! Quick question that’s totally off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My site looks weird when viewing from my iphone 4. I’m
trying to find a theme or plugin that might be able to fix this problem.
If you have any recommendations, please share.
    Appreciate it!
