July 4 – Boom Box Parade Day

In 1986 no marching band could be found for the annual Windham’s Memorial Day Parade. So the people of Connecticut improvised, creating the Boom Box Parade! Participants are encouraged to bring along a radio, tuned to WILI, a radio station that broadcasts the parade music, carried by the people with the radios. This tradition has lasted many years, with 2013 being the 28th anniversary.
