When I first saw “Tell The Truth Day” for July 7, I was concerned that it existed. After all, what kind of world do we live in where there needs to be a day specifically to tell the truth? Shouldn’t we be telling the truth everyday? But then I thought about this: Imagine a world where everybody told the truth every second of every day. There would presumably be less crime, less cheating and definitely a lot less false information (by telling the truth all the time, I mean what people believe to be true. People could easily spread false information they thought was true in this world.). I would imagine it would be quite horrible.
Humans are social, group creatures and we have this voice in our heads that tells us when something is socially inappropriate to say, even if it is the truth. All the white lies that we tell everyday in order to save someones feelings or to save ourselves from the onslaught of terror that may result from hurting said persons feelings…we really need those. At least, I know I do.
