In order to celebrate Make a Difference Day, I want to share with you one of my most treasured moral stories from childhood:
One day after a huge storm the night before, a man woke up early and went to the beach. The storm had tossed the ocean, and upon the sand lay hundreds and hundreds of starfish, helpless drying out and the sun rose above the horizon. As the man sat there contemplating natures destructive beauty, he spotted a lone figure making their way along the beach. Every so often the figure was stop, look out into the ocean, and then continue walking. As the figure came closer the man realised it was a woman, stopping to pick up the starfish and throw them back out into the ocean. As she came near enough to hear him, the man yelled out: “What a pointless task! You are wasting your time, for you will never make a difference! There are hundreds of starfish, and only one of you.”. The woman silently bent down and picked up a single starfish and tossed it as far as she could into the water. “I made the world of a difference to that one,” she said.
